Tanis Parenteau ist in Peace River, Alberta, Kanada geboren und aufgewachsen. Sie ist Mitglied der Métis-Nation in Alberta und stammt von den Cree und Sioux ab. Da Tanis seit Kindertagen Sportlerin ist, war ihr das Auftreten vor Publikum niemals fremd. 15 Jahre lang war sie Eiskunstläuferin und trat bei Wettbewerben an.

Tanis absolvierte im Jahr 2000 ihren Abschluss als Bachelor of Physical Education an der Universität von Alberta. Zu dieser Zeit nahm sie auch an einem Einführungskurs für Schauspiel teil und verliebte sich Hals über Kopf in die Kunst des Darstellens. 2003 zog Tanis nach Vancouver, BC, um ihre Karriere weiter zu verfolgen. Mit einer Hauptrolle in einer Episode der Serie The Twilight Zone konnte sich ihre Karriere bestens entwickeln. Im Jahr 2008 ging Tanis nach New York City, um sich vollkommen der Schauspielkunst zu widmen. Sie schloss 2011 ihr Schauspiel-Studium mit dem Master of Fine Arts ab.

Tanis ist in New York schnell zu einer gefragten indigenen Schauspielerin geworden. Auf dem Bildschirm ist sie vor allem in der Rolle von TAMMY, der indianischen Kellnerin in der Netflix-Serie House of Cards, bekannt. Die Serie wurde bereits mit dem Emmy und dem Golden Globe ausgezeichnet. Zuletzt schrieb und produzierte sie ihren ersten Kurzfilm A Big Black Space. MADELINE IVALU has been a key elder participant in all the productions by the AVP since 1991. She was cultural advisor and interviewer for Women/Health/Body and Itivimiut as well as storyteller, musician, actor and writer for Qulliq, Attagutaaluk Starvation, Piujuq and Angutautuq and Unikausiq. She presented Arnait videos at Qaigit in Ottawa and in Montreal in 1996 and 1997. Die Sila Singers formten sich aus der Zusammenarbeit der beiden unabhängigen Throat Sängerinnen (Throat Singing = Kehlkopfgesang) Jenna Broomfield und Malaya Bishop. Ihr gemeinsames Interesse für den Kehlkopfgesang brachte sie zusammen. Jenna erlernte das Throat Singing im Alter von 14 Jahren, zwei Nunavummiut-Sängerinnen  (Nunavummiut = Bewohner des eigenständigen Territoriums Nunavut im arktischen Nordosten Kanadas) brachten es ihr bei. Sie befand sich damals auf der Suche nach traditionellen Kulturpraktiken, die in ihrer Gemeinde mit der Zeit verloren gegangen waren; ein Ergebnis der Residential Schools (Internate, in denen indigene Kinder eurokanadisch erzogen wurden, was zum Verlust indigenen Wissens und Sprachen führte). Malaya erlernte den Kehlkopfgesang hingegen in der Schule ihrer Gemeinde, als sie fünf Jahre alt war.

Jenna und Malaya trafen sich zum ersten Mal in Edmonton, Kanada, während Malaya einen Auftritt hatte. Jenna sprach sie an und fragte, ob sie nicht gemeinsam ein paar Lieder singen wollten und die Sila Singers waren geboren!

Mittlerweile blicken die Sila Singers auf eine Vielzahl an Veranstaltungen zurück. Jenna und Malaya stammen aus Nunatsiavut und Nunavut, leben aber in Edmonton, Alberta, um Studium und Arbeit nachzugehen. Jenna hat einen Bachelor-Abschluss in Native Studies und ist ausgebildet in Indigener Regierungsführung und Partnerschaft (Certificate in Aboriginal Governance and Partnership). Sila Singers began as a collaboration of two independent throat singers named Jenna Broomfield and Malaya Bishop, their shared interest in throat singing brought them together in a partnership. Jenna learned throat singing, from two Nunavummuit throat singers, at the age of 14 in her journey of relearning some of her cultural practices which had been lost in her community as a result of Residential Schools. Malaya learned throat singing at the age of five at school from elders in her community.
Jenna and Malaya met in Edmonton while Malaya was doing a throat singing performance, Jenna was a throat singer as well and asked to throat sing a few songs with her at this performance, this was their first time performing together and Sila Singers was born!
Sila Singers have been throat singing in a multitude of events, however some of their memorable performances included: 7th National Truth and Reconciliation Commission Event, Faculty of Native Studies 25th Anniversary Inaugural Event, International Students Day University of Alberta, Aboriginal Day Calgary, Aboriginal Day Edmonton, Dream Catchers Festival 2013, and Sanaunguabik: Traditions and Transformations Museum Opening Event.
Jenna and Malaya are from Nunatsiavut and Nunavut, respectively, and have been travelling from Edmonton Alberta where they both now reside for University and Work.

Die facettenreiche Schauspielerin und Filmproduzentin Roseanne Supernault (Métis/Cree) stand schon früh auf der Bühne und glänzte in Theater- und Tanzaufführungen. Roseanne Supernault hatte seitdem Rollen in Theater- und Tanzproduktionen, Spielfilmen, Dokumentationen sowie in Werbespots.

Ihr liegen sowohl düstere als auch fröhliche Rollen, wobei ihre komödiantische Ader die dramatischsten Stücke zu erhellen vermag. Für ihre Schauspielkunst hat sie bereits mehrere Auszeichnungen erhalten, u.a. für Blackstone, Maina, Rhymes For Young Ghouls, und Every Emotions Costs. In ihrer neusten Bühnenrolle in dem Stück Dreary and Izzy verkörpert  Roseanne Supernault eine Frau, die an FASD (fetales Alkoholsyndrom) leidet. Die Rolle brachte ihr zahlreiche lobende Kritiken ein sowie eine SAT Award-Nominierung. Als nächstes wird sie Zwillinge in dem Spielfilm Neither Wolf, Nor Dog (von Steven Lewis Simpson) darstellen. Des Weiteren ist sie Ende 2015/Anfang 2016 in mehreren APTN-Dokuserien zu sehen sowie in einer Online-Serie von Telus Optik TV. Roseanne Supernault ist auch als Produzentin aktiv; ihr erster Kurzfilm The Nod feierte seine Premiere auf dem American Indian Film Festival, wo er auch als bester Kurzfilm nominiert war. Der nächste Kurzfilm mit dem Titel Hunter’s Daughter ist bereits in Arbeit.

Die Schauspielerin gibt ihr Wissen in Schauspiel-Workshops für Jugendliche weiter, hält ehrenamtlich Vorträge und führt durch Veranstaltungen. Mit ihrer großen Fan-Gemeinde ist sie zu einem regelrechten Social-Media-Mogul geworden: insgesamt 40.000 Fans folgen ihr in sozialen Netzwerken.

Die Schauspielerin und Sängerin (Throat singer) Lucy Tulugarjuk wurde 1975 in Churchill, Provinz Manitoba in Kanada geboren. Aufgewachsen ist sie in Igloolik/Nunavut.

Ihr Schauspiel-Debüt hatte sie 1989 mit einer Rolle in der Fernsehserie Friday with teenagers. In dem berühmten Spielfilm Atanarjuat – The Fast Runner (Regie: Zacharias Kunuk, 2001), spielte sie Puja, die zweite Ehefrau Atanarjuats. Der Film wurde 2001 bei den Internationalen Filmfestspielen in Cannes mit der Goldenen Kamera ausgezeichnet. Lucy Tulugarjuk erhielt im selben Jahr für ihre Rolle in Atanarjuat den Best Actress Award des American Aboriginal Film Festivals.

In der belgischen Komödie L’iceberg (Regie: Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon und Bruno Romy, 2005) spielt sie die letzte überlebende Inuk. Aber auch hinter der Kamera ist Lucy Tulugarjuk in mehreren Filmprojekten aktiv, so war sie für das Casting bei The Journals of Knud Rasmussen (Regie: Norman Cohn und Zacharias Kunuk, 2006) zuständig.

Actress and throat singer Lucy Tulugarjuk, born in 1975 in Churchill/Manitoba/Canada, grew up in Igloolik/Nunavut.
She made her acting debut by playing a part at the television series Friday with teenagers (Inuit Broadcasting Corporation, 1989). Getting involved in the famous feature film Atanarjuat – The fast Runner (directed by Zacharias Kunuk, 2001), was one of her career’s highlights! She played Puja, Atanarjuat’s second wife, and received the Best Actress Award of the Aboriginal Film Festival in 2001. The film won the Golden Camera at the International Film Festival of Cannes in the same year.
Lucy Tulugajuk played the last surviving Inuk in the Belgian comedy L’iceberg (directed by Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon and Bruno Romy, 2005). But she is also active behind the camera: She casted the actors for The Journals of Knud Rasmussen (directed by Norman Cohn and Zacharias Kunuk, 2006).
Recently, she had a part in Maïna (directed by Michel Poulette, 2013), together with her daughter Nuvvija.
Lucy Tulugarjuk promotes the Inuit cultural heritage through live performances and film. She is a co-founder of the project Artcirq, a group of young artists who combine Inuit songs, games and drum dance with circus, modern music and acrobatics.

Marie-Hélène Cousineau zog 1990 von ihrer Heimatstadt Montreal nach Igloolik, Nunavut, wo sie maßgeblich an der Entwicklung von Inuit-Frauenfilmen beteiligt war. 1991 gründete sie mit Zacharias Kunuk und Norman Cohn das Tarriaksuk Video Centre. In 1990 Marie-Hélène Cousineau went from her native Montreal to Igloolik, Nunavut, where she was integral to the development of women’s video. In 1991, she founded the Tarriaksuk Video Centre with Zacharias Kunuk and Norman Cohn, and with Mary Kunuk and Madeline Ivalu, she established Arnait Video Productions, with whom she continues to produce and direct video works.

Cousineau received an MFA in communication studies and production from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, and an MA in art history from the Université du Québec à Montréal, and has taught at Collège Jean de Brébeuf and Concordia University in Montreal.  She served as consultant in the development of the Nunavut Film Commission and from 2002 to 2004, she was vice-president of Ajjitt, the Nunavut Filmmakers Association.

With Madeline Ivalu she co-directed Before Tomorrow, a historical drama set in 1840’s and based on a novel by acclaimed Danish writer Jorn Riel. The film won the CITY-TV Award for Best Canadian First Feature Film at the Toronto International Film Festival 2008 and many other Canadian awards. Uvanga, the second feature co-directed with Madeline Ivalu, is a contemporary family drama set in Igloolik and toured international festivals.

The film is a poignant investigation about the death of a young Inuit artist and sheds light on the underlying social issues of Canada’s North that have resulted in its high suicide rate.
Now living in Montreal she goes back and forth to the North and is developing film and television projects for children.

Frank Waln ist Sicangu Lakota, ein preisgekrönter Künstler mit einem Hochschulabschluss in Audio Arts and Acoustics (Columbia College Chicago). Er stammt aus der He Dog Gemeinschaft von der Rosebud Reservation. Frank Waln nutzt seine Musik und Aufführungen, um ganz direkt Kolonialismus, staatliche Gewalt und weitere Themen, die Indigene betreffen, zu thematisieren.

Frank gehört von Geburt an zum Rosebud Sioux Stamm und ist dort aufgewachsen. Er bekam ein Stipendium aus dem Stiftungsprogramm von Bill Gates und ist aktuell im Ehemaligen-Rat des National Gates Millennium Alumni Council an. Frank war einer der Künstler, die in der Sendung Rebel Music Native America von MTV vorgestellt wurden. Die Sendung wurde im Rahmen des Native American Heritage Month weltweit ausgestrahlt. 2012 bis 2014 war er Künstler des First Peoples Fund Artist in Business Leadership, 2014 zeichnete ihn der Bürgermeister von Chicago mit dem Preis für bürgerliches Engagement aus.

Ebenfalls 2014 bekam die Auszeichnung „Native American 40 Under 40“ vom National center of American Indian Enterprise. Mehrere Magazine porträtierten Frank Waln, darunter USA Today, The Hollywood Reporter, Buzzfeed (12 Native Americans Who Are Making a Difference) und The Chicago Tribune. Frank war zudem 2014 auf den Titelseiten des Native Peoples Magazine und des Native Max Magazine. Frank Waln is a Sicangu Lakota, award winning artist with a BA in Audio Arts and Acoustics from Columbia College Chicago. He is from the He Dog community on the Rosebud Reservation. Frank Waln is an outspoken artist who uses his music and performance to address colonialism, state violence and other issues that affect Indigenous people.

Frank is Sicangu Lakota and an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe where he was born and raised. He is a Gates Millennium Alum and currently holds a position on the National Gates Millennium Alumni Council. Frank was one of the featured artists in MTV’s Rebel Music Native America episode which aired on MTV all over the world for Native American Heritage Month. He is a 2012-2013/2013-2014 First Peoples Fund Artist in Business Leadership Grant Fellow; 2014 recipient of the Chicago Mayor’s Award for Civic Engagement; and a 2014 National center of American Indian Enterprise „Native American 40 Under 40“ Award recipient. He has also been featured in many publications, most notably, USA Today, The Hollywood Reporter, Buzzfeed and The Chicago Tribune. Frank was featured on the cover of Native Peoples Magazine and Native Max Magazine in 2014.
